The Plus for Automotive Safety and Comfort: the Radome Test

Test bumpers in an innovative and economical way!

Radar-capable bumpers play a key role in current assistance systems and sub-functionalities of autonomous driving - e.g. collision protection, blind spot and lane change assistants as well as adaptive cruise control.

Due to this high priority in modern vehicle construction, it is essential to test radar capability in an efficient and safe way now and in the future. With our innovative and flexible radome test systems, we easily meet this challenge.

How does the radome test work?

The radar capability test checks whether and to what extent a radome - e.g. a bumper - is permeable to electromagnetic waves. This is necessary because the radar sensors in modern vehicles are attached to the inside of the bumper. The bumper must therefore be checked to see whether the radar signals can penetrate it.

Radome testing procedure:

  • After inserting the bumper cover into the test device, an RFID label attached to the test specimen is automatically scanned. This is then transferred to the Berghof system. The test specimen is subsequently moved into the test chamber.
  • The actual testing of the bumper cover in the radar area for radar transparency and radar reflection now takes place.
  • After a successful test, a label is printed and affixed by the employee. This label is counter-scanned before the test specimen is removed and combined with the RFID label in the Berghof system.
